On Monday 3rd November, 2014 a group of four officials from Chengdu in the People’s Republic of China visited Fingal.   The delegation was welcomed by the Mayor of Fingal, Councillor Mags Murray and the Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, Paul Reid.

The itinerary for the day included a visit to Fingal’s Drinan Enterprise Centre, Swords to showcase the excellent facilities available to new Chinese businesses considering entering the European market and seeking office space in Fingal.

The delegation moved on to visit Sam Dennigan and Company, a large Fingal company based in Palmerstown, Oldtown  involved in the production, sourcing, procurement, purchasing, sales, distribution and marketing of fresh produce for Irish, UK and European customers.  Joe and Sam Dennigan welcomed the delegation and provided an extensive tour of the company’s facility.

Following lunch at the Roganstown Hotel & Country Club the delegation received a presentation from Dr. Pól Mac Aonghusa, Senior Research Manager in IBM on collaboration with the Dublin Local Authorities and IBM in their Smarter Cities Technology Centre in Dublin.  Smarter Cities is IBM’s initiative to utilise the wide array of data and instrumentation available pertaining to city life to enable cities to become smarter in their integration and delivery of services and planning.

The final appointment of the day was with Dublin City University where the group was welcomed by Dr. Anne Sinnott, Executive Dean at DCU Business School.  The delegation went on to receive presentations from Dr. Tony McEnroe of the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce and Dr. Caroline McMullan, Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning who shared information with the delegation on DCU’s Masters Programme in Emergency Management.  It is hoped that this visit will lead to further collaboration with Chengdu’s universities.
