Fingal Dublin Chamber 2009 Annual Golf Classic
in Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links
The 14th Annual Golf Classic of Fingal Dublin Chamber took place in Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links on Friday, 3rd July 2009. Teams competed for the magnificent Chamber Perpetual Golf Trophy, sponsored by the Dublin Airport Authority.
This is the fourth year of the Pepetual Golf Trophy with Whelan Corcoran Smith (2006), Clarion Hotel Dublin Airport (2007) and DHL Global Forwarding (2008) winning it in previous years.
The golfers enjoyed a great day of golf in excellent conditions in the wonderful setting of Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links overlooking the sea at Portmarnock.
The prizes consisting of beautiful selections of wines were sponsored by Dublin Airport Authority.
This year there was a special “Hole in One Competition” on the 17th Hole sponsored by eXpd8 with a prize of €2,500 worth of computer hardware and software. Unfortunately nobody managed a hole in one on this occasion. Special thanks to Declan Branagan and eXpd8 for their support.
After a thrilling finish to the day, golfers anxiously awaited the awarding of the prizes. There were two teams with a score of 86 and two teams with a score of 84 with the winners being decided on back nine scores.
The winner of the Fingal Dublin Chamber Annual Perpetual Golf Trophy was Clambrook Limited with a score of 86 – 43 on the back nine. The team was led by PJ O’Sullivan with Declan Kelly, Shane O’Sullivan and Gerry Langan
Second place on a score of 86 with 41 on the back nine, went to the Fingal County Council Team with Peter Whelan, John Burke, John Gilmartin and Shay Barker.
Third prize with a score of 85 went to the Dublin Airport Authority Team led by Declan McCarthy with Steven Foran, Brian Lennon and Bobby Cash.
Forth place was won by the Pavilions Shopping Centre Team with a score of 84 with a score of 44 on the back nine and led by Ian Hunter with James Maxwell, Jim Gallagher and Kevin McGowan.
The prize for the Nearest to the Pin went to Matthew Dunne from the Fingal Tourism Team.
The Longest Drive Prize went to Gavin Butler from the Rohans Holdings Team.
“This was a really challenging day for the teams with everyone enjoying a great day of golf and expressing how much they enjoyed the occasion. Special thanks was due to Dublin Airport Authority who have supported the Chamber Golf Classic for the past fourteen years.
As usual the Chamber members strongly supported this annual event. A special thanks is due to Averil Clarke and the team at the Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links for presenting the course in such wonderful condition”. said Chamber President Andrew O’Neill at the prize-giving dinner in Portmarnock Hotel.
Declan McCarthy from Dublin Airport Authority complimented the Chamber on a well organised classic and stated that they were delighted to be involved with events in the local community and particularly so with Fingal Dublin Chamber.
Receiving the Second Prize from Chamber President, Andrew O’Neill and Declan McCarthy from DAA were the Fingal County Council Team with Peter Whelan, John Burke, John Gilmartin and Shay Barker.
