  Annual Golf Classic 2006

Fingal Dublin Chamber launches new Perpetual Golf Trophy at Annual Golf Classic in Malahide Golf Club.
The 11th Annual Golf Classic of Fingal Dublin Chamber took place in Malahide Golf Club on Monday, June 26th 2006. Teams competed for the magnificent new Chamber Perpetual Golf Trophy, sponsored by the Dublin Airport Authority, for the first time.

The golfers enjoyed a great day of golf in overcast conditions in the wonderfully maintained parkland course in Malahide. The prizes of beautiful selections of wines were, once again, sponsored by Dublin Airport Authority.

After a thrilling finish to the day, golfers anxiously awaited the awarding of the prizes. The first winners of the Fingal Dublin Chamber Annual Perpetual Golf Trophy was the Whelan Corcoran Smith Architects team with a score of 95. The team was led by Stephen Lam with Paul Bradshaw, Frank Kiernan and Liam Byrne.

Second place on a score of 92 went to the AIB Bank team of Brian McGrath, Barry Gibney, Paddy Cullen and Carl Boyle.

Also on a score of 92, third prize went the Shannon Solicitors Team led by Vincent Shannon and his team of Peter Loughran, Tom McCaughey and Mannix Smith.

Forth place was won by the team from Frank McGowan Furniture with a score of 91 and led by Thomas McGowan with Francis McGowan, Seamus Kiernan and Carl Farrell.

The prize for the Nearest to the Pin went to Liam Knox from the Liffey Developments Team.

The Longest Drive Prize went to Stephen Lam from the winning Whelan Corcoran Smith Architects Team.

A special ladies prize was awarded to Jackie Austen from the Promotions Factory team.

“This was another great day for Fingal Dublin Chamber with everyone expressing how much they enjoyed the occassion. A special thanks to our members for supporting this annual event.” said Chamber President Declan Monaghan at the prize-giving dinner which was very well attended.

Alan Leavey from Dublin Airport Authority complimented the Chamber on a well organised classic and stated that they were delighted to be involved with events in the local community and particularly so with Fingal Dublin Chamber.

Golf Committee Chairman, Pat McNamara thanked the many team and hole sponsors for participating in our 11th Golf Classic. He also thanked Hugh and his catering staff in Malahide Golf Club for the excellent food and George Hurley from Oldhausen for providing a BBQ on the 10th.

Pat welcomed the strong showing of solidarity of the vintners in the area with Michael Wright and Alan Clancy from Wrights Café Bar linking up with Tony Gibney and Lorcan Gibney from Gibneys in Malahide to compete for the trophy.

Photographer, Kieran Corrigan projected a great display of over forty digitally produced photographs of the golfers out on the course.

Chamber Chief Executive, Tony Lambert was delighted with the day. “This is always a very special day out for Chamber Members and their guests and the great support from the business community is always very heartening” said Tony “Next year will be even more exciting with many teams already committed to taking the title from the Whelan Corcoran Smith team who have stated that they will be playing a strong team to hold on to the trophy.
