The Pavilions Shopping Centre at Swords, which opened in May 2001, is one of Ireland’s best known and most visited retail developments. The Pavilions was acquired by Chartered Land, controlled by Joe O’Reilly, in 2006 for approximately €575 million, representing the largest single transaction in the history of the state. This sale was officially recognised as Ireland’s Property Deal of the Year at the 2006 Annual Property Awards. The proposals for the future expansion at Swords will consolidate the centre as the destination for North Dublin and the North Eastern Seaboard.
Phase 2 of the development opened in the last quarter of 2007, adding a further 16,000 sq.m. of retail and leisure space to the centre. It is anchored by the hugely successful Movies@ Swords, Dunnes Stores, Superquinn and TK Maxx and also includes high profile and popular stores such as Zara, Mango, Pamela Scott, A-Wear, Sasha, Diesel, Esprit, Bertoni and the Bagel Factory, Ireland’s 2nd Yo! Sushi and Butlers Chocolate Café. Customers at the Pavilions Shopping Centre also have access, via a new walkway, to the 5,500 sq.m. Penney’s in the Swords Central Shopping Centre.
The expansion of the Pavilions continues with the Phase 3 extension due for completion in 2010. Indigenous and international retail brands have already expressed interest in becoming part of the Pavilions success story. A further 10,000sq.m.of retail and leisure space will adjoin the existing scheme. Plans for a new integrated transport interchange leading directly to the city centre will undoubtedly secure Swords’ position as the primary shopping destination within the North Eastern Seaboard. |
